Why Dreamhost Isn’t Getting My Business

January 14th, 2008

I decided late last year that the time had come to host this site commercially (it currently lives on a little old machine sitting in some donated rack space in downtown Toronto).  My first thought was Dreamhost, but when I tried to sign up this morning, they insisted that I stuff my credit card details into my Google account for processing.  One less customer for Dreamhost…

Wow really? They never did that to me when I signed up a few years ago…

I have a few friends who are with site5 and are quite satisfied. It’s also really cheap!

That’s weird. When I signed up in December they had a direct-CC option, where they took you to their own SSL site, so you could pay directly. Their Payment methods list it too.

You could try contacting support and asking what’s up. Also, if you decide to sign up, google for some sign-up promo codes. They could save you up to $97.

If you want a virtual server, then I can recommend linode.com… reasonably priced, and I’m blissfully happy with them…

This morning Dreamhost messed up their billing system and caused chaos:

Good thing my credit card on their system expired already…
