The Third Bit

I’ve been waiting for a really good build book. Something that describes the common parts of all build tools and systems. An author could start with the state of a build, how to decide what to do when a user gives a command (dependency checking), how to generate things that are used as inputs to other parts of the build system. Other pieces that always crop up are versions, build numbers, labels, and then packaging strategies.
All necessary and not well covered anywhere outside the minds of a few toolsmiths in the industry.
