Great post from David Humphrey about teaching his children what makes a computer go. I still don’t know my way around their insides (computers, I mean, not children); maybe I’ll get to learn along with Maddie.
I tell mine in dribs and drabs as the topics comes up. A bit of Python here, a bit of architecture there. The best thing to dismantle is a disk drive because they like the shiny mirror inside.
On a somewhat related-note, I had the satisfaction recently of sitting in my garage listening to my 5-year old trying to find a tool to “make something”. “No, not that saw, it could chop my fingers off. Not the sharp thing, that could cut me. And not the soldering iron, that’s hot!”. I’ve obviously trained him well
