Interesting that there are more Mac students than from McGill. Even though the conference is taking place across the street from McGill’s campus.
Too bad UofT’s turnout is so low. I had a blast the one year that I went.
Hello Greg, you have great presentation skills!
I really enjoyed your presentation, and I would like to check some of the books you referenced, can you post your slides online?
Also, we talked after the presentation about research and how to come up with a good question, and you mentioned some book, can you give me the title?
As a McGill undergrad (who is attending) myself, I find it a bit sad. We try to advertise the conference but a lot of students seem apathetic. I think there was more advertising done last year and there was an even smaller turnout. The record for McGill students before this year was 8. I think one of the big factors that actually allowed for a “strong” attendance this year is a last ditch effort that help get tickets subsidized.
However, I think another potential factor is the Software Engineering programs at McGill. From what I’ve heard, compared to other univerisites, McGills program isn’t very software engineering-ish. It’s more like computer engineering with a bit of CS and would be SE courses thrown in the mix. I think these might have some sort of overall effect on how SE is perceived. This may lead people to shy away from CUSEC. Just a thought…
That all being said, I enjoyed your talk very much and am considering (eventually) purchasing Beautiful Code. I have a backlog of things to read though so I suppose I’ll add it to the list.
Concordia Library is awesome as usual: http://clues.concordia.ca/search~S0?/Ybeautiful+code
Are you back in TO now or still hanging out in Montreal for the weekend?
