Please Don’t Ship with UPS
February 8th, 2006
UPS messed up a delivery from the States again today. (Apparently, they find it hard to remember that Canada is an independent country, with its own taxes and regulations and stuff.) Having wasted hours wandering around their responsibility-avoidance systems last year, trying to sort out similar problems, I’d like to make a request: if you’re a publisher sending me books to review, please, choose someone — anyone — else.
*sigh*
The best way to get stuff across the border is the US / Canada postal services. Cheap and efficient, those guys, and vastly under-rated.
I don’t know if it’s still true, but in “the day” UPS shipped everything to Hamilton instead of Toronto because it was cheaper, causing all sorts of problems…
I’ve never had a problem with them losing stuff or otherwise delaying shipment, but since they charge an arm and a leg for brokerage (in my experience, 35% – 50% of the original purchase price) I avoid them wherever possible. (Canada Post charges $5.00 – $7.00 for the same service
For the most part, looks like you are preaching to the converted. Try getting them to correctly ship a TV stand – let’s just say I’ve learned my lesson, and in the future would rather subject myself to maintaining bad code
