Seven Non-Myths
August 16th, 2010
Another good post from Mark Guzdial, this one reporting on a CS education conference he’s attending. Among the talks was one summarizing seven non-myths about computing, i.e., things that people sometimes claim are myths, but which are actually true:
- Programming is boring.
- You have to sit in front of a computer all day.
- You have to work long hours.
- Programming is asocial.
- Programming is for those who think logically.
- Software is being outsourced.
- Programming is a well-paid profession.

Sorry, the link to the article within the blog in case it flows off the frontpage by the time you click this: http://computinged.wordpress.com/2010/08/11/blogging-the-first-day-of-icer-2010/
You might want to point out some of the subtext. For example, the speaker claimed that for points 1, 2, and 3, this is also true of most professional jobs.
