Problems with Google Calendar

February 11th, 2007

I’m using Google Calendar to organize [sic] my life, and have stumbled across an annoying bug.  I maintain two calendars: one for work-related events, and one for my personal life.  I have set sharing on the latter to “Share only my free / busy information (hide details)”, but if you view my calendar at:

http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=gvwilson%40cs.utoronto.ca

all you see is items from the first (work) calendar.  I had expected to see the times from the second blocked out as well, without event names or details.  Is this a “feature”, or…?

I think its because each of your calendars has its own URL. Maybe I am wrong but I think thats how it works, so your private calendar will have a different public URL(much less readable).

Afaik there is no “merged” view of all your calendars, maybe a nice little project…

“Merged view” available via Calgoo at http://www.calgoo.com. Note I would suggest waiting a week or so for the vastly improved new version due later in Feb.

If you’ve decided to stick with your Mac for a while longer ;) , there is a great little syncing product I use called Spanning Sync (http://spanningsync.com/). It won’t solve your public calendars issue I’m afraid but it does let you manage your sharable Google calendars via iCal. No, I’m not associated with them in any way – just a big fan.
