Almost all of this term’s students now have projects, but I’m still trying to find one for a grad student who’s interested in programming language semantics, program analysis, and the like. He’s smart, he works hard, he has a throwback 1970s haircut—if you’ve got something that needs someone who really cares about the formal end of programming languages (the kind of stuff that Turbak and Gifford talk about in their book), then please give me a shout ASAP.

Via Serguei Zinine, a draft paper looking at the effects on students’ financial prospects of graduating during a recession. Charts with results start on pg. 47.

Later: Diane Horton pointed out that they only analyzed men; the word “women” comes up only once in 73 pages. I’m embarrassed that I didn’t notice this myself.

We ran 21 projects in last winter’s consulting course. This term, the 25 listed below are being done by 20 grad students and 19 undergrads. I’ll post status reports here, but if you’d like to know more, you’re always welcome to join us in the Red Room at 444 Spadina Ave (half a block south of College, on the west side) on Monday afternoons from 1:00-3:00.
